Well it's the last weekend of the school holidays. Great reason to get out. Nice escape for dinner and music tonight at The Alternate Root Café. Chilli Jam played 6-9pm We got to try out our new material. Ritz, Walk on The Wild Side and we swapped singers for Brown Eyed Girl. Mick had a fabulous voice and it's so much fun to hear a new flavour. In the end we were immersed in our music we ended up having two sets, one long set rather than the usual three. Some lovely friends, dating and others visiting for the first time. It's always a lovely ambience and the food is delicious. Great work by Lucy and the team. Fri 5th April 2024 8pm to 11 pm
Such a wet week, this is a nice place to be! It was a cosy night and kicked off with some dinner music, in no time there were familiar faces, Uncle Cyril and Hazel showed up. (Cyril had performed earlier at the Cultural Keeping place, so this was special.) Keith Cornish was able to fulfil a request by a visitor from Nowra. He was in fine form. 9:00 - 9:45 am Saturday 24th March, 2024
Chilli Jam performing for Seasons of New England at Hampden Park Uralla NSW Early start at 8:00 for sound check. This year there was only one stage, so performers had to be there early to swap and set up quickly. We were blessed with cooler weather as well as a little morning fog that cleared up. Brendan Mooney and Dave Brown doing the sound. We had wireless mics and I got to use a new wireless connector to the guitar. Mick had a gig at Tamworth, with Morgan Tucker later that evening. So it was good to be on first. Highlights for us included the chance to do latin songs and some new songs that went very well. For example, Guantanamera in key of F, Mambo Tequila for the very end song, where Gary sings in Spanish (our little joke). What would we do different? Perhaps sit a little closer on stage as it felt like we were a little too far apart from the other. We had excellent feedback, in particular from a Golf Club who were delighted to hear such great music. They took our details. Our set flowed well and someone said "you can tell your were great because all of a sudden, if felt like it was over too quickly". Meaning that they were just getting into the groove when they could not believe it was over. Enjoyed seeing other performers and friends. Some terrific stalls. Nice feeling hearing from patrons and stall holders how much they loved our music. Yay!

Massive table booked for a celebration. Chillies were ready to go and we kicked off with a few quiet songs, and then built up the sound as people got more relaxed. A little fun banter between us all as we make each other laugh mid song. Fun sound check playing around with "Walk on The Wild Side" sliding bass for something different. Beautiful weather, and a great variety of people. The ladies loved our songs, you could see them singing and mouthing all the words. Yet it did not take away from what they were doing, socialising and celebrating. We love it when people come and tell us what a great time they had and how much they enjoyed the music. The Grand Hotel has such a wonderful ambiance on a Sunday afternoon. The staff are flat out and the regulars seem to chill and enjoy live music and great food.
Gary and Massiel went to BUPA Nursing Home to give the residence a spectacular experience. We did our best, favourite songs and we even had some surprise performances by the Manager - Tamil - who got out the electric guitar and did a number with Gary. This sure impressed the staff and his sons who had just arrived to Armidale for the first time.
It was HOT, a warm summer's day turned into a live and vibrant opportunity. Gary and Massiel were in sync getting into all sorts of songs that were well received. At one point there were several staff assisting residents to dance on the spot. You could see this surprised a few people. And what a Friday Night this was! Fri 8th December 2023. We turned up early, around 2 pm for sound check and set up. By the evening, it was a full house with the meat raffle and prizes going. The surprise was how many returned and turned up, and by the second set we were flat out. Dance floor was busy! Wild card song was "Alice" and I owed Gary a beer for that.
